kara walker
since post-racial america came and went about as fast as i can read my birth certificate (it mentions durham country regional but we all know i was popped out in the heart of riyadh) i decided to tea party myself on over to explore kara walker's work. this risd grad and columbia professor's use of silhouette to explore power, sex, race, gender and violence with a humor and exactness that is pretty unnerving and amazing. these two come from: Gone, An Historical Romance of a Civil War As It Occurred Between the Dusky Thighs of One Young Negress and Her Heart
